Danger of Blackhead when raising turkeys with chickens?

Hi folks
We have one lovely heritage Tom who chose us as his new family. We had to put him in the large run with the chickens. Just bought him a coop. But, now I'm reading about Blackhead disease. Any experiences to share? Any advice?

I just noticed that some of my chickens have milky colored loose poop all of a sudden. Is this a sign of Blackhead? could it be the addition of the cracked corn?

From my understanding you either have it in your soil or you don't and the only way of knowing is to keep turkeys, I don't have a problem, all my birds free range on the same pasture.

We also pasture our turkeys and chickens together without problem. Although that's not to say that it couldn't be in the future. I like the turkeys out there with them because the hawks tend to stay away with the bigger birds in the field. As long as turkeys seem happy and healthy do what works for you.

Ten miles north of where we are now I had them together and had no issues at all. Then we moved here, which is a property that never had any poultry and boom, first batch poults raised here get blackhead (confirmed by UCD necropsy). Several trips to the vet, and lots of research I now have a treatment plan that's about 95% effective if caught soon enough.

Mine are pets, so they get treated with fenbendazole (Safeguard) for the cecal worm, metronidazole (Flagyl) for the blackhead protozoa and enrofloxacin (Baytril) for the E.coli that they usually get with it.
