I saw a very promising sign today. Little chickens were scratching in the dirt by the fence shared with the big chickens. The lowest ranking hen started scratching nearby and watching them. The blue EE came right over and pecked her.so she moved away. Then, the EE lowered her head down so she was looking at them up close and made little noises at them. It sounded like soft, clucky cooing? She scratched and made some tidbit sounds. I think she wants to mother them!
This is what she did last time and she was so patient waiting for them to be released to her care. Once permitted, she was a HUGE help. I wasn't sure she was interested because they've been there all week and she's only been casually watching until today.
She's also never gone broody in the normal sense. She doesn't want to sit on eggs but once they hit 1-2 weeks, then they are worth her time.
