Hey everyone, I have a dark Brahma chicken who seems to be struggling with the heat. She's currently sleeping in the coop and panting heavily. We've had some cooler temperatures recently, but tonight it's around 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

This is my first Brahma, so I'm not sure if this is normal behavior for the breed.

Is it normal for Brahma chickens to struggle in slightly warmer temperatures like this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

No, not normal. They can take fair levels of heat. Is she laying?
she has been laying eggs every day and was completely fine when she was out earlier today. All of my chickens were standing on the roost as they were sleeping, which I normally take as a sign of being a little hot in the coop. My Brahma is not even one yet, so this is her first time with heat and full feathers.

Any other symptoms?

Okay false alarm. I went out and pulled her from the roost and let her walk around and drink some water. She drank a lot of water but is good now and sleeping.

Oh, you're looking for swelling or bloating between the legs and for the crop if it's doughy or squishy
I gave a feel but to be honest the crop felt a little firm? But I’ve never felt before so wouldn’t exactly know if I was in the right spot. I fed some worms and corn kennels before bed and am wondering if maybe she got one stuck in her throat? I pulled her from the roost and let her walk around and she drank a lot of water and now she’s sleeping fine and no more panting.

I appreciate you taking your time to answer and help me out! It’s always very worrisome when something is going wrong! So thank you for answering!
