Hello all. I'm new here. 1st post. It looks like you guys have a great community going here.

I've been raising a small flock of ISA Browns, Olive Eggers and FCB Marans for 2 years now. The ISA Browns and the rooster actually came with the house. I always assumed they were brother/sisters. Now I'm ready to try my hand at incubating and hatching so as to naturally add to my flock. After some research it appears that my roo is actually a dark Brahma. This is based off of Google lens. Can any of you confirm that "Elvis" is indeed Brahma?

Interesting. I got the olive eggers and marans as chicks last year and they are a year younger than the ISA Browns and rooster. Sourced from completely different places. Thank you.

Whatever he is, he is not purebred. He has somewhat of a tuft on his head, but not a full one. His feet are feathered a little oddly which would point to him only carrying one copy of the gene and his color is splotchy with leakage. All of which indicate that he is not purebred. His tuft with overall look make me lean heavily to some sort of egger. His comb, color, body shape are completely wrong for a dark Brahma. This is what a dark Brahma should look like.

Ok. That makes sense. I'm very new at the genetics of this. If I understand correctly, I can incubate and hatch the dark brown eggs from the marans, and the darkest green of the olive eggers that were fertilized by a rooster (Elvis) with dark egg genes then I stand a pretty good chance of raising hens that produce colored eggs? Or am I way off base? I'm just looking for colored egg layers and sweet hens, not purebreds.

Welcome to the forums!!

He's a really interesting crossbreed; I wish I could take a guess at what. The cream shoulders make me think of some kind of easter egger, but he's missing the muffs and beards they so often have...

If you hatch anything from him, we'd love to see the results!

His feet also look like he has an issue. Perhaps scaly leg mites.
Can you get some pictures of his feet please?
I won't be able to take pictures of him in good light until tomorrow. I do put diatomaceous powder in the nesting box, but he's never in there. Probably should start putting it in his dust bath area and around the coop. Thank you for the heads up.

That's the plan. I'll post what hatches. I'm very interested to see the results.

Thanks to all of you for the responses. This is the most fun hobby I ever had.
