I have a dark cornish bantam roo that is a little over a year old. I noticed yesterday that he was wallowing in the dirt in his pen and didn't think much about it. Just thought he was dust bathing. This morning, he was in the same position and the look in his eye wasn't good. He had a few ants on him and while I was watching him, one of the other bantam roos mounted him like he was a hen.
I picked up the cornish and he was getting a collection of poo on his bottom, which was red, probably due to wallowing in the dirt. I cleaned it off a bit. He wasn't using his legs and appears to be dying. I put him in the small brooder in the house with food and water to watch him.
What is the life expectancy of a bantam cornish? Are they shorter-lived than other breeds?
