My flock consists of 2 dark cornish roos and 24 hens (mostly white rock, a few dark cornish & a few light brahmas). I just started hatching my own eggs & have done 6 batches back to back since late spring (may). I sold many of the chicks as mutts but ended up with a few from each batch. I love these chicks! They are very hardy. I put them outside at 3 weeks old with no problems - even the last ones & its starting to get down to 60's at night. They turned out to be beautiful colors of all sorts of combinations. The oldest ones were actually too small when I put them in the big pen with the full grown chickens & they escaped the electronet. We got tired of chasing them & so they've been roosting under our camper at night & foraging all day. We barely have to give them feed at all! They stay pretty close & have been on the loose for nearly 2 months now. They did not grow out as quickly as I had hoped. We were trying to get a meat bird. But now at 12ish weeks they would be good sized. We ended up with mostly hens so we decided to keep them. Im hoping they will lay well too. As far as growing out, they seemed to have a slow start but once they hit about 6 weeks they put on weight quickly. We have 3 more that are about 6 weeks now, and 2 that are 3 weeks, and 30 that just hatched. I love the results of this cross & recommend that you give it a try! Plus they are very mild mannered & sweet (cant catch them any more but they do run up to us & are not even afraid of our german shepherd)
