dark egg

Not my first rodeo incubating, but also not a pro. I have eggs in my incubator. Mixed colors. Almost all are looking great. We are on day 8. One of the eggs was clear and had no development, tossed it. One of the dark olive eggs is completely dark inside. No sign of an aircell that i can see, no movement, no veins visible. Just dark solid black inside. Not at all clear like other eggs that havent developed. What is going on here? I was given these eggs, is it possible it was already developed when given to me and is just someone's quitter rotting away? No smell, yet. im very confused.

Don't throw it away. From the picture it looks like the shell is super thick and highly colored. I have the same experience with my chickens dark eggs. Even with a professional candle lighter some eggs are impossible to see through.

Keep it for now. I had two very dark ones like that in my last batch. One I could barely see the air cell the other, nothing. Both hatched.

Thank you, the shell being super thick makes sense and i had not thought of that factor. I was basing my judgment soley on the fact that it's a dark green but there are 3 other same color in this batch but i can see into those. But if the shell is very thick i can see how this would be the result with this egg. Thank you, i will leave it.

I have an odd situation. First time incubating eggs for me. I have 12 dark marans (wheaten, splash not BCM) and partridge penedeseca plus 3 dark green olive eggers all in the incubator. Ran 35% humidity for 18 days. Could not see squat in ANY of them candling.Did the smell test and never had one stink. Day18 went to 65% humidity and on day 20 3 pipped and hatched huge!They're all doing well but I opened the incubator and got them out. They were tearing around in there like Godzillas messing with the remaining eggs! So the rest of the batch is silent, no pips nothing. Its the end of day 21 now. Only my 3 DARKEST eggs have hatched. Is that not crazy??
