Hello all.
I have a year old Columbian rock hen, on standard adult feed, water with a splash of apple cider vinegar, and oyster shell calcium who seems to be having runny dark poop. She free ranges almost all day so eats lots of grass and whatever she finds out there, but her bum just gets worse and worse. She is acting perfectly perky and normal. Could it be from too many table scraps?
We lost our dwarf columbian rock (never grew to adult size) to flystrike a month and a half ago but she had sour crop first which i think caused it. I couldn't bear to lose another one.
We washed her bum today but since she is white feathered, it didn't make it look that much better. The dark colour faded to a light brown on her white feathers.

I guess what I wanted to ask is should I be concerned? Is there something to prevent this? She lives with two barred rocks and they do not have this issue so im thinking something is wrong with her, but she's acting so normal. Lays eggs almost every day. Please anyone!! I cant find anything like hers on poo guides/charts!!

does it look like this?

is it possible to upload a picture of your chickens bum?

No, it doesn't look quite like that. And it doesn't smell. Her bum is dry now so i'll put a pic of that, as well as her poop from like two minutes ago. It is pretty solid this time so i’m thinking the colour has to be from grass.

The dropping looks pretty normal. Color is often a factor of what they eat. Do they have grit available? If they are eating a lot of grass or fiberous stuff then they need the grit in order to digest it. Not enough grit can cause problems. Dirty butts happen sometimes for reasons that are not serious. Drinking a lot of water, dietary changes, watermelon, etc can do it. Have your birds ever been wormed or had a fecal test done? Carrying a load of worms can cause runny droppings. Sometimes the bird just doesn't push them out as hard and they catch on feathers. If she's acting normally, then I would just keep an eye on her.

we wormed them like two months ago, shouldn’t be that. and yes she did have a lot of watermelon this past week so that must’ve done it. thank you! we will keep an eye.
