With so many hatchery RIR's and orangey-red Production reds, I think most people haven't seen a nice dark colored Rhode Island Red purebred. My pullet, Scarlett, is from Julie Batchelor's lovely dark mahogany red rooster. The more "Lucille Ball" redheaded pullet in the pics with her has the same father, but a Buff Orpington mother-you may notice she has pinky-white legs instead of yellow. Interesting that a crossbred bird is the same color as most chicks that hatcheries are selling as Rhode Island Reds, isn't it? Thought I'd show off Scarlett.
