The sapphire gem is always by herself. It's been that way since we got them. She will perch on a roost and watch the others run around. The other chicks go in and out (inner run and outer run) but she stays in the safe space most of the time.
At times I catch her and bring her outside with the other chicks but it seems she only gets a few minutes out there before a hen decides to chase them away. Then for most of the day she (Darla) is back in the safe space while the others run in and out.
What would you do? Keep trying to bring her out with the others or leave her be?
Will this be a problem later on? (will she be the picked on chicken?)

How old are they?

Is she being actively bullied -- driven away from the group and kept from food and water?

I have an independent-minded California White who is never bullied but who goes her own way and does her own thing.

I had a very timid Black Langshan cockerel who panicked over everything and was always the last to explore a new environment.

The CW is fine and happy as she is so if it's an independent spirit rather than excessive timidity or bullying it's not a problem.

She is one of the 9 week olds. She hasn't been picked on and will stand up for herself when need be. She just prefers to be by herself. Such a mellow chick. That's how she got her name, Darla. I call her "my little darling".
I feel bad for her so much so my husband thought we were going to have a house chicken. :lau

Edited to add...
We are in the process of integrating the 7 chicks with the original flock of 4 (4yr old) hens. I wondered if she is always by herself if that will become a problem later when the safe space is finally removed.

That sounds like Chipotle.

Nobody messes with Chipotle.

But she's always off doing her own thing.

Maybe Darla will make a friend among the newcomers once integration is complete. :)

Love the name!

Many of my American breed hens are named for Boar's Head chicken lunchmeats -- because I'm a deli clerk and I give my chickens food names to remind us all that though we enjoy them for their chicken nature their ultimate job is to provide food.

I've got one of Chipotle's chicks tagged to keep as her replacement.
