My 14 year old daughter and I are new to backyard chickening but we are loving it. We have converted an old play set into a coop. We have 3 Plymouth Rock chickens, which we got in August. They are not laying eggs yet, but we hope any day. We are a little worried about the winter, as it is pretty intense here in Upstate NY, but we are reading lots and planning. We have added insulation and deep bedding and a heated water dish. This hobby ain't cheap!

not the cheapest your right but WELCOME so glad you decided to join yes there are benefits to premium membership but not required by any stretch ... you will find so many articles and many great folks

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)
