Darned chickens! Won't eat Veggies

Try fencing off a small area in their run, put the scraps in there and tell them to stay out. Right about then their natural born rebellion instincts should kick in and they'll eat every last bit.

At least mine seem to do everything I don't want them to. Or am I confusing them with my children......

Now that my girls are 12 and 15 weeks old, they have begun eating just about anything. They do love the protein items, but they also love grass and weeds tossed in, broccoli, beets, and dark leafy greens. When they were younger, they only liked grass seeds, but now they like just about anything.

Remember that composting is the best way to get rid of extra everything from your yard and kitchen and then all that good stuff gets to go back in your garden to help grow more plants!

These are my first ever chicks and they are only a week and a half old. They seem to like bugs, rice, bread crumbs, go berserk over raisins and would not touch broccoli!

Melirobin, I am learning about composting this year and already have a pile started and a book ordered!!

I will keep trying to get them to eat their veggies. Honestly, they are like children, yes? LOL

My chickens will eat ANYTHING...I mean ANYTHING. I am surprised yours wont eat veggies. Mine will try to eat the peel from the bananas I give them. Try to eat the yogurt........container. hahahah Pigs they are.

The best thing to do at this point is start a compost pile and throw all those kitchen trimmings the chickens won't eat in there. Add the poop and bedding and you have some great compost!

My hens will eat the florets of broccoli but won't touch anything hard like a stem or carrot. I put what I think they like in the run and then remove the leftovers the next day and put them in the compost. Funny, I have complained about the chickens eating too much of my kitchen waste and cutting down on my compost volume!
