I really don’t have a hard plan with what I’ll do with these. I hope to dispatch the males this fall with some meat birds. Of the pullets, I’d like to keep some and sell some.

In the incubator are the following
2 Dominique/mutt Roo X with Exchequer Leghorn
3 Dominique/mutt Roo X barred rock
3 Dominique/mutt Roo X buff Brahma (the resulting female chicks are a sloppy/cuckoo barring)
5 blue copper Maran roo X black copper Maran
4 blue copper Maran roo X blue Ameraucana
5 blue copper Maran roo X leghorn/Maran Olive egger

One of the eggs in particular was laid by my favorite hen, Burrito who is one of two buff brahmas.

Also included are pics of the roosters and the first pullet offspring from my Dominque mutt rooster and Buff Brahma. She’s a large hen that lays medium brown eggs almost daily.

I am anxious to post development updates, but I was also a nervous wreck just putting them in the incubator!

Day 1 (The eggs were put on the ‘bator atound 1pm yesterday, May 1st.)

Featured are both of the white leghorn eggs. Candling showed what is normal on Day 1, which is typically no visible development. Hopefully by day 3 or 4, it’ll look more exciting!

I’ve got a question for you NR 360 users. When your candling your eggs do you completely remove the lid and do all them as quickly as possible with the lid off or a lid tilt grab and close each egg?
Last night I did a lid tilt, grabbed the egg, and closed. The instructions say it’s okay to have the lid off for eight minutes. I will candle various other eggs throughout the hatch and use the two leghorn eggs as a control to check nightly, so when I do more than those two eggs I’ll probably remove the entire lid. I’m so scared of dropping an egg!

Day 3: I was able to see the heart beating! Unfortunately my hands were shaking too badly to see it in video. Very cool moment to witness!
Neat!

I find that putting my phone in a cup to hold while I'm recording is much easier than trying to hold the phone.

I could have done something, but I had my roommate standing over my shoulder and my cat jumped onto the table so I was getting very overwhelmed and put the egg back. I’d be sick if one was dropped at this point 😞 tomorrow I will be ready with the camera! I wasn’t expecting to see the heart beating tonight!

Day four. In the first imagine the air cell looked as if it was running from top to bottom of the egg, which isn’t pictured.... I don’t think this a detached air cell? In neither egg could I see a clearly defined heartbeat as I did yesterday, but the embryo looked much darker, too so I imagine that’s why the heartbeat is no longer clear.
