day 17, not one sign of movement.

now that that's cleared up, what about my brooder? i have every thing spot on, (i think :)) but i just read one of the articles saying that i should have nothing covering the top of the tank. my heater is covering the top. what do you guys think?
You shouldn't have anything solid covering your tank. You want good ventilation. Make sure they have a warm side and a cool side so they can start self regulating their temperatures. I put their food and water in the cool side so they have to go there to get food and water. You may have to tap at the food and water for the first couple of chicks so they figure out what it is. Once one learns, the rest will learn from that one.

Make sure they don't have anything they can get trapped under, make sure their water is shallow enough that they can't drown in it (or put marbles or something in it). I've heard that they can be very creative in finding ways to die. I've been lucky enough to not lose any that way, but I came close with one who didn't seem to know that it should move back to the warm spot of the brooder after eating.

haha.

yes, i have all f that. should i cover three quarters of the tank with it and the food and water on the other side?
Do you have hardware cloth or a mesh top that you can use? You don't want to use solid cover on the top if you can avoid it. I keep a thermometer at both ends of the brooder so the warm end is around 95-100 for the first couple of days and the cool end is usually in the 75-85 degree range. 3/4 cover seems like a bit much to me.

After the first couple of days I start lowering the temperature. By the end of the first week it's around 90, by the end of the 2nd to 3rd week it's around 75-80, then turn it off. Keep an eye on the chicks. They'll let you know if it's too hot or too cold. If they're constantly climbing over each other and won't sleep in the warm corner, they're too cold. If they're stretched out and lying on their sides, they're too hot.

hello! i am realllllly anxious to see my quail hatch and i am really nervous so sorry if this is just a stupid question. i put my quail eggs in lock down on day 14 and all the temps seem to be normal. humidity=55-60% and temp is 99 in there. yesterday and today i haven't gotten one sign of movement. also, the humidity is only 55-60 and the condensation concerns me. there's water all over the lid! should i be worried?:fl:fl:fl:jumpy:jumpy
Ouch...have you been candling the eggs to make sure they are developing?
I am very worried that your humidity had been TOO high for too long.

and after what ive been advised, i will move the heater over. (the black thing on top is the heater)

what do you think will happen? i have not candled the eggs.
for the future, what humidity/ temp for incubation do you guys recommend?

I'd remove the lid and put hardware cloth instead and I would get that paper towel roll out of there.

I prefer to incubate my quail eggs at about 20 to 30% humidity.
I am worried that your humidity was too high throughout the whole time.... Which may lead to them drowning in the shell.
There is absolutely nothing you can do at this point to change that just wait and see.
