Day 18 hatching humidity problem

I’m currently hatching eggs in the nurture right 360 incubator and I’m having problems with the humidity. It is day 18 and I fully opened the ventilation, removed the egg turner, and filled water in both water ports like I was supposed to. I’ve heard about splayed leg and chick feet getting stuck with the bottom on this incubator so I tried a little paper towel for some grip when they emerge. The humidity is not going higher than 55 and it is supposed to be 70-75.
Is it the paper towel absorbing all of the moisture? I moved them more then I would have liked today and I would not really want to disturb them again by removing the paper towel. I would really appreciate any advice.

I have an NR 360 and have never had a problem with chick's grip on the egg tray of the incubator. I also have not had a problem with humidity in the thing, either; it reads about 3-4% lower than a calibrated hydrometer and .3* lower than actual temp by a calibrated thermometer. So, close enough not to worry about it in our case.

I'd personally get rid of the paper towels.

I waited till today and I got rid of the paper towel because it was still 55. Now it has gone up to 67 which should be fine. I can hear them chirping from their egg and a few piped already. Thank you for the suggestion!

I too use shelf liner. Even if the chicks grip the tray well, it helps the eggs from being jostled too much
would love to hear what shelf liner you use? is it the rubbery kind that has the little holes in it? I have eggs that are going in today so need to get a shelf liner for it. Thankfully I can grab one after work before I set the eggs.

I have a Kebonnix and mine does the same thing. It won’t get quite where I want it during lockdown.

But

1. It’s hasn’t been an issue in my two hatches.

2. As soon as one hatched the humidity will spike

I have a Kroger-type grocery store across from my work, so I just get the $2 liner - PERFORATED HOLES A MUST!! Definitely need the one with holes for good ventilation and maintaining humidity levels.
