Hi all,

This is just a mini-vent. I am on day 19 and my 2 remaining silkie eggs are in lockdown! I never thought it would be so stressful or that I would feel so invested. I am mostly scared about if only one makes it and the other is a lonely little chickadee. It would also be horrible if neither made it. Both eggs were candled on day 18 and they were about the right size, reasonable air cells and I could see them moving.

I have ordered some more hatching eggs which are arriving special courier today so it wouldn't be too long before I got them some company.

I think I have just a ton of what ifs in my head. Like - what if I messed up incubation despite all my research and fussing? What if I can't help them hatch if I need to because I freeze? What if...?

I am being paranoid and I know it, but god this is intense. Any support would be great as I feel like I keep leaping up to check the eggs every 5 mins. I am such a beginner :caf

Also, when in lockdown, do most eggs start to rock before they pip or after?

Thank you. I bet that made no sense - too much coffee and not enough sleep :idunno

Much love and appreciation - thanks for reading - stay safe all

Bex x

You can sometimes see the eggs move before they pip from the chicks getting into a better position to hatch. It sounds like you have good chances of two healthy silkies based on that candling.

I've seen hundreds of chickens hatch and the lil guys have it under control. It can be quite nerve wracking having to wait though, I agree. I wish you the best of luck with your first hatching. :)

Thank you - that brought my blood pressure down a bit :D I'm watching like a hawk

You're not alone! I'm going through the same thing right now and I've had lots of nervous days with all the same questions and anxiety, loss of sleep and lots of fussing. I'm on day 20. Only (up to) a few more days to go. We'll pull through!
Let me know how you get on with yours! I have my fingers, toes, arms and legs crossed for us. :fl Happy hatching x

I know what you mean, I'm nervous about the 'if' part too. But I've read a lot of stories about seemingly impossible hatching feats as well so I'll ALWAYS have hope! Lol and I can't imagine not trying again though this last 3 weeks has been MORE work I think than taking care of a newborn baby!

Right! Well, as I only got 2/4 viable I felt guilty and ordered more. I ordered 6 cos - you know, hatching rates and shipped eggs... I can fit maybe 8 silkies into my little coop anyways. Now, the kind egg supplier decided he would add in a few extras. 6 extras just arrived! OMG I am not sure I have room if most hatch - it's going to be another 3 weeks of agony. I am actually hoping for a yolker or 2 so I don't have to build ANOTHER coop. My husband is going to kill me LOL. :lau:lau FML
