Hi There,

I am at day 21 with my standard chicken egg incubation. I had one little guy arrive a day early yesterday and into last night but unfortunately after pipping, he seemed to suffocate in the egg whilst trying to unzip. I have my temp set at 35 centigrade and humidity around 70%.

It is my first time and I just needed to know if these settings were ok to hatch at?

Any help would be great!

Regards

Ben

35*C is a bit low, ideally it should be closer to 37.5*C, but don't it doesn't matter so much at this late stage. The humidity is fine where it is. Good luck with the rest of the hatch!

Hi sumi,

Many thanks for your reply. I'm struggling to raise temperature whilst keeping humidity high, seems I can only have one or the other?! Glad 70% is about right though, it's my first time so will have to see how it goes! Thanks again!

Correct humidity is more important now and the temperature is close enough. What was your temperature during incubation?

Ok that's good, it's just that I read somewhere the temp needed to be spot on to help break down the membrane properly? Temp was held at 37.5 or very close to it for the entire first 19 days.

The temperature needs to be spot on during incubation to ensure the embryo grows at the right rate. So it only dropped now when you bumped the humidity?

Yep, incubator heat on full but I'm struggling to get the temp any higher now. Sitting around 34.5-35*c. Any suggestions? I tried a heat lamp on it but then humidity dropped to 55%.

Have you got space in the incubator, can you fit another small water container in there or a wet sponge? See if that helps keep the humidity high when you warm it up more?

Good idea! Thanks, will give it a try and let you know what happens... I can hear a couple of chirpers so hopefully something is going right!
