Day 22, eggs rocking, no pips or peeping. . . . what would you do?

Start over

Check one formerly moving egg to see what you can see for trouble shooting for next time?

Give up entirely because this is for the birds!

How long past their due date, if they're rocking, do you wait to see if anything will hatch?

There are several rocking, not a ton, but at least 5.

If you have movement/life in any of the eggs, I would give them a couple extra days. You can always candle and see if there's anything going on, check for internal pips. You won't always hear internal peeps. If there are no internal pips by the end of day 23, then I wouldn't hold out much hope. I don't give up on them unless there are no internal pips and no sign of life. How long you wait is totally up to you. I do recommend doing eggtopsies and investigating to see what the possible causes may be.

I freaked out my first hatch..was on here messaging anyone n everyone I could. .they calmed me down and taliked me through opening one and checking for life,etc..day 23 and 24 I had chicks everywhere..don't give up yet..your Temps may have been a little low(that was my issue), but you can take tweezers and pip a hole in an air sac, wet the membrane and see how thick the veins are, that'll give you an idea of how close they are to hatching.. lots of great advice on the Hatching 101 forum

Edited to add...if you do pip into the air sac, candle first and only go into the air sac, do not puncture the membrane

That is great!! Glad you waited. Do you know what day you actually set the eggs?

I set them 4/1.

Two hatched, another with a pip and peeping. :))

Question, the first one hatched is dry but it occasionally ends up on it's back. Is that normal?

Yes, he just needs time to find his feet and get balanced. (Unless there is noticeable leg/foot issues.) Chicks can be very floppy/unbalenced after hatch naturally, but you want to watch for leg/foot issues as well.

YAY!! I always give them extra days after my first experience bc I was convinced that with no hatches on day 22 that I'd really messed up..I think I ended up with around 35 chicks out of 42 I had set

7 eggs hatched.
3 died by day 2.
.
4 chicks total, 2 are normal and 2 have splayed legs. The last chick hatched last night and its normal.

None of the ducks hatched successfully. 2 pipped, but died in their shells. :(

Not a good hatch. I'm just happy the kids got to see something hatch. My youngest said to me this morning, "Good Morning Mom, I just hatched from my shel!"

Starting over tomorrow. :) 'bators are desanitized and running. Now to figure out how to calibrate thermometers. I've got 7 of them and they all read different temps. Thoughts?

I think that there's a section in the Hatching 101 thread on how to calibrate...I have no idea, I use 2 cooking mercury thermometers in each bator, each has a digital and then I have a humidity gauge for reptiles in each (has a thermo on it too but I never pay attention to it)
Sorry it was a disappointment. .don't give up yet, read everything you can find on here about hatching and incubating. .I have the book Storeys Guide to Raising Chickens and although it is a great source, the info here on BY make it look like a phamplet ;)
