Hi all, such brilliant information on this forum.

I've got 10 eggs in my incubator and only 1 has hatched today, pipped yesterday and pecked its way out today, has a little something horrid still attached and hoping it'll dry off and fall off. Day 22 today. I counted day 1 from the day after I set them. Just wondering if it might still happen, no noises but candling was pretty successful, I was expecting at least 5 or 6. They're in a Brinsea octagon 24 egg machine which had an autoturner attached until day 18.

Any advice much appreciated

Hi there. Can you please post pictures of the candling if possible? The things stuck to the chick is either the umbilicus or what we call the afterburner. (It isn’t, but it's more polite)

Yeah I'll candle again tonight and take pictures if no pips when I get back. I think it looks like umbilicus yeah, hopefully it'll just fall off. Poor wee thing will be lonely.

Thanks for your help!

We've just sat quietly in the dark with a light to candle the remaining eggs. we've decided there was 2 or 3 with chicks in them which look to have died, no movement at all. 1 of them has stopped developing a while ago because it's got a large air cell.

Very disappointed but will try again. Have bought a guage for thermometer and hygrometer for inside the brinsea, it's very old and hasn't been used in a long long time so perhaps the temp isn't reading correctly. Bit of a miracle the one that's made it really!
