Day 23

It's day 23 on my cochin eggs. 4 have hatched 2 of the eggs still look like they could hatch but no pip. They are dark with the air sack on bottom and I do see veins along the bottom where it meets the air sac. Are they still alive? How long should I leave them in there before I give up?

Just me personally I would leave one more day then remove if nothing has happened. Unfortunately sometimes chicks get right to the hatching point and then pass due to many reasons. I’ve certainly had my fair share over the years.

First, are you counting the days right? That's a very common mistake and I would not want you tossing eggs because of a mistake. An egg does not have a day's worth of development the instant it goes into the incubator or under a broody hen. It has a day's worth of development 24 hours later. So if you are counting you say "1" the day after you start it. An easy way to check your counting is the day of the week you start them is the day of the week the 21 days are up. If you set them on a Friday the 21 days are up on a Friday.

No all eggs hatch on 21 days, they can be early or late. So if you are counting the days correctly I'd go with Yorkshire Coop's advice.

Yes I started them on Friday March 3rd. So the 21 days would be Friday March 24th. I will wait another day and see what happens. Thank you.

I did leave them in till this morning and nothing happened. No pip or chirping and no hatch.

I have an egg that is on day 22. All the others have hatched but this one. I candled this morning and see movement and hear faint “scratching” noise. I am going to wait until tomorrow as I think I put this egg in a day later than the rest.
