This afternoon starts day 25. Last night I decided to water candle my eggs since every one else hatched by Thursday afternoon. I have had nothing, no pips or movement of any kind. I know you are supposed to wait till they are over due, but I didn't. There was no movement from any of them in the water, and I used light also. Did not see any movement either, however, I did see some vessels? One of the eggs was clearly gone from the appearance so we cracked it open. still had yoke sack and vessels but not alive. Looked to be pretty much or close to developed. Temp has been good, no humidity problems... but I guess I'm asking is it possible for life since there are still vessels present in some of the eggs? I would assume they would go away like in earlier stages if the chick died in development? I would have thought I would have seen some type of movement in at least one of them if there was a chance.

Are you hatching duck eggs?
I'm confused, you said they were overdue, but then you said you candled last night and know that you wait until over due, but you didn't, so I'm lost.

I'm also a bit confused. Do you have chicken eggs on day 25? I'm assuming that's what's going on since you've already had some hatch. Veins are a pretty good indicator that there could still be life in them. However, if you've floated them in water and opened one to find it dead, I'd pitch them this late in the game. You've stated that your temp and humidity have been fine, and other chicks have hatched, I would assume that the left over eggs weren't meant to be and trash them.

Sorry about the confusing statement. I'll fix that. They are not over due until tomorrow. They are chickens and I did not state it well. I'm at work today and the ER is having it moments. I meant there has been no hatching since day 21. My initial hatch was day 20 and 21. They started early and were like popcorn. And actually by day 21 at 3pm everyone was finished. Only one of the remaining had internally pipped and was clearly dead. The others I put back in the bator since I had seen veins just in case. I was thinking of checking one of those tonight and if nothing then throwing them. I checked home and no pips. Most of the remaining ones are heritage Delawares. Does that breed have any special hatching preferences or habits?

They might be a bit behind in development if the eggs were older eggs, or had been cold during transport to you. keep them for a few more days before chucking just in case. Some eggs take there time., No movement
in water don't necessary mean their dead.

Ok, so if day 21 is over, then they are overdue. Most (not always, especially if you have cold spots in the incubator) hatches hatch out what is going to hatch within 48 hours of the first hatch. Generally if I have eggs left and see no movement or action from then by 24 hours after the last hatcher, I would not expect any more. I would candle/water candle and unless there was distinct sign of life, I would proceed to eggtopsy, but start in the air cell so that if there is any life you can stop and they would still have a chance.

. I was not sure if I needed to wait past day 25 or not. I feel like they are finished. When I get home I will check them out.
