Is this baby dead? It’s a silkie and it didn’t pip until day 23... and over 24 hours later now and nothing else has happened. I was advised to candle it... which I did in the incubator in an attempt to not lose too much heat/humidity. No movement. Is this a bad sign?

Have you been able to see the beak through the hole? If so, did it move previously and is it still now?

They can take some naps before zipping, and some take forever between pip&zip.

Hopefully some more experienced will join in.

There wasn’t a hole to see through. Just the break in the shell and then nothing in 36 hours now. When I candled it it look like the beak was in the right spot but there was no movement from him. I’ve never heard a cheep like the other threads I’ve been reading.

hmm Normally (?) you can see the beak in the hole/pip moving ("yawning"/eating motion) while it is absorbing the yolk.

Let me see if maybe @Nabiki can give some advice

This is all we ever saw

What humidity do you have it at?

One of my quail eggs didn't manage to pip properly (I thought it did, I could see the shell cracking in a zipline later) and suffocated - I had messed up the humidity without knowing it, doing a "dry" hatch so that it couldn't penetrate the membrane :(

Probably try what @BirdsBeesTrees suggested; carefully peal away from where it tried to pip and see (and/or carefully make a hole in the top of the airsack)

It was between 65/70 for humidity. We assume it’s gone at this point and will probably open it up to see what went wrong if we can tell :(
