This is my first time hatching, this has been so fun! I have one Wheaten Marans egg left on day 25 (6-20) that still has no internal pip. I do see slight movement when I candle, it looks crammed in there. On day 18 I saw feet up by the air cell, I am a bit concerned she is positioned wrong. Do I wait and see or interfere?

Oh dear...if you saw feet on day 18 and it's now day 25...I'm fearing the worst. :/ You say you still saw movement? Was that also back on day 18 or was this recent?

Considering you're 4 days past the expected hatch date, I think I would. :/ You're positive you saw feet in the air cell? If you did then the chick would have likely suffocated long before now. Maybe you should make a tiny hole in the shell and see if you can see the chick's head.

I've never had to intervene on a hatch before so I'm not the person to ask about it...someone, anyone please reply!

Also here's a great thread on intervening in difficult hatches, maybe this will have the info you're looking for. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/9316/intervention-helping-your-chicks-hatch

You should never interfere. If there is still movement when you candle, then there is still hope. If a chick can't make it out on it's own, then it will probably not survive anyway, besides, if you only have one egg that hasn't hatched you've had a great hatch!! Opening the incubator at this point is not a good idea. I'd love to see pics of the ones that have hatched. I also have Marans, one of them is a beautiful Wheaten rooster.

i have done many assisted hatches and most survive i would make a pip in the air cell take a flashlight and look if you see a head leave it if you don't go to the other end and pip through the membrane if you see blood STOP put him back and wait a little longer now if there is no head down there try pipping the membrane in the air cell

you could also try these techniques don't let the pictures at the top scare you from helping he is definitely ready to come out

She wasn't alive. The feet were up by the face, pushing the beak away from the shell. So sad

Next time I see feet in the wrong place I am going to watch that egg VERY closely. I don't like possibly preventable deaths.

Thank you all for your help and input.
