Okay I have been hatching chicks now for over 3 years and well this is the first for me, I noticed one of my day old Australorp chicks huddled in the corner, big shiny, fat chick but seemed not feeling well.
I took it out to see if maybe it had pasty butt, NO but I found that his belly was swollen and he has no vent to get pasty butt nor does he have a end to his spinal cord for a tail.
I know I need to put this chick down but what causes this, I looked online for a answer and couldn't find one, anyone else had this happen?

I've never seen or heard of a deformity like that, if it isn't due to inbreeding it could just be that the chick formed incorrectly from faults in the egg or sperm cell...so sorry for your loss.
