I would like to try raising 50 meat birds this summer + 2 new day-old layers.

Could I raise them together for a certain period of time?

I'm not sure about the timing. I may end up getting the 2 layers sooner (late May) and the meat birds mid-June. I haven't worked it out in my little head yet :).

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I just seperated mine today- after only 3 days they are very noticably different in size and bulk. I was shocked, since they were all very similar in size when they arrived.

I figured I'd go ahead and do it now before it became a problem, since I'd have to seperate them in a couple of weeks anyway. That way, too, I can feed the layers regular chick starter, while the broilers get the high protein stuff.

If you get your layers in May and Broilers in June they should be ok together for a couple weeks. I wouldn't go longer than that. I seperate mine after just a few weeks together, the broilers never leave any feed for the layers to eat and they need to be seperated.
