What would attack a chicken in broad daylight? Something carted off one of my chickens from the yard at 3 in the afternoon. Pulled out her tail feathers and some from around her neck, but never broke the skin. I heard something moving in the woods and run out there and there she was trying to hide under some brush.
Could it have been a fox taking it back to her kits alive? Whatever it was didn't kill her, just traumatized her pretty good.

If hungry enough, any predator willl modify it's normal hunting pattern and kill during the day - especially if this is when the prey is available.
