I was not comfortable at first taking the food and water out at night. I knew they would be fine, but still bothered me. After the first night and seeing just how little of a mess they made vs when it was in there I knew it was the right choice for us and then. I had to literally add bedding every day, now it has been around a week since I have needed to. Just depends if they decide to go swimming right before bed time lol. It really makes such a huge difference.Well they're happy this morning! I let them out and they went for the food as usual, then washed it down with just a sip of water- so clearly they weren't even that thirsty!
Basically just like an ordinary morning- except their house is clean and dry! Oh what a great change![]()
It bothered me too, I reduced the amount of water/food they had the night before cutting it out, to let them adjust a little bit. I'm really happy about how clean and dry it is! Previously I cleaned most of the house daily, all the wet mess, so it was dry every night for them- now I think we'll be able to use the bedding for at least 3 days! Maybe up to a week, we'll see!I was not comfortable at first taking the food and water out at night. I knew they would be fine, but still bothered me. I use a deep liter method in our duck house. I haven't fully cleaned it in months. Last time I did I only took maybe half the bedding out even. I will be pulling it all out in next few months, mainly just so I can utilize it for fertilizer, as since starting doing it this way it just doesn't look bad, and hasn't gotten to smell, even when I just was changing it out constantly it always had a foul smell imo, but now not so much. I was quite skeptical about trying this, but I will say I have been very pleased, and our ducks seem to appreciate it. They really love when I need to add some, they have to go in during the day, just to drill around in the fresh and get it ready for when it is bed time lol.It bothered me too, I reduced the amount of water/food they had the night before cutting it out, to let them adjust a little bit. I have a deep bed of shavings in there so I can turn the shavings over, hopefully it'll last a little while!
