My pullets will be hitting egg laying age during the early winter. I know this may delay their first eggs. Considering adding light. What is the recommended number of hours of light per day? And how bright does it need to be? Would a strong flashlight in a small (4x4) coop be enough?

A 40 watt bulb in that small space will be plenty. My light is on a timer and comes on at 4:00am and goes off at 9:00am. Then the chickens go to bed at night when the sun goes down.

SO what does that give you during the winter? 12-13 hours?
