Daytime chicken thief...

I have a fenced in backyard with a 5-6 foot tall privacy fence. My chickens had roamed it freely for months during the day and returned to their coop at night. Then... 1 disappeared without a trace. I assumed she flew the fence and ran off. Then a week later another... I clipped all the wings... but in faster succession they disappeared. Always during the day. No feathers. No squawks. Just gone. I'm thinking it must be a hawk since it's during the day and I'm not sure what else could pull it over then fence without me noticing and no trace? I've got my poor last girl cooped up for now with the babies... but how do I keep them safe? Am I resolved to building a run?

Sounds like a hawk or another bird of prey. Building a run would be best. Either build a roof over the run, or use netting. The hawk will come back, and may even be nesting in the area.

That's what I figured... they discovered easy food and keep coming back
