The lady at the hardware store where we got it said she didn't know if she would put it with chickens. It is safe, right? It is the organic kind that is not treated (like for pools). How much do I use? Do I just sprinkle it around the outdoor run? Do I put it inside the coop too?? Advice please...

I'm not familiar with that particular discription ("crawling insect killer") of DE so I don't know what might be special about it, but you might want to find food grade DE instead. You can use that with no problems with your chickens and I'm sure it will work just as well as what you have for the bugs. We have been using it for several months now. We use it in the coop and the chickens dust bath and they love it. When we move the duck ark, I always sprinkle it on the "mess" the ducks have left behind and it eliminates almost all the fly activity on that area. We are sold on using it, now I just wish I could find it a little cheaper.

If it's what I bought at Lowes last year, the package says it has some kind of lure or attractant that draws the bugs to it.
Since I didn't know what that was, or if it would harm my birds, I didn't use it in their area.
