DE in Maryland ??

I found out on BYC that the product called Stall Dry is a combo of DE & Clay. I got a 40# bag at my local feed store for $13. I figure that will last me several years! I read the label of course, it is non-toxic and safe to use with livestock including chickens.

I am using the deep litter method, a few inches of fresh wood shavings and sprinkled with a cup or two of stall dry once a week. No smell no flies and I haven't cleaned my coop since March.

I also sprinkle it into their favorite "dust bath" area, it is supposed to help keep mites/lice away. But I mostly wanted it to keep the run from smelling and growing/attacting flies.

Hey Boondachs,

any info on finding it "local"....I've been doing some research (reading threads here LOL) and it looks like some good stuff. Looks like it might have some multi-use potental, in coop and feed for digestive system...looks good, keep me posted

I was at Country Feed and Garden in Gambrills today and FORGOT to look for DE! I did see Stall Dry in the horse aisle.

Another idea... you could check in Whole Foods grocery in Annapolis, in Parole Town Center (new shopping center at Rt.2 and West Street) and see if they have it for people or in the pet section.

The Mill in Blackhorse, since they are connected, I'm venturing the Mill in Whiteford, BelAir don't have it either.

If anybody does find it in MD, I'd love to know.

I ordered the food grade codex DE from my Southern States stressing that it could only be food grade & they got it in a few weeks later, but alas it was the wrong stuff. My neighbor went up to Bird in Hand, PA near Lancaster last week and got me a 50 lb bag of the Permaguard so that's the closest place I know of so far!

I found it near Lancaster PA..but never went to get it. Used stall dry instead. I am going to see if I can find that link again. How did you all make out?
