Not sure what happened... We are first time chicken raisers. We bought 6 pullets that are Rhode Island Reds, 6 Plymouth Rocks and built a coop for them. we are on week 17 and started feeding them a layer diet a week ago. We found on brown egg in the coop tonight that had a double yolk. I am told that it is normal for new chicks to do that. It feel into the drain before we can really inspect to see if it was fertile.

Sadly, we found this on the floor of the coop, it was NOT there this morning and we do not know where it came from.. Does this look like a chicken? or maybe a bird found its way into the coop? There's some very small holes in the coop where one could have snuck in... We are not sure what happen :( we are not sure what is going on... We bought all pullets but maybe we have a rooster? Even if it was we did not notice any eggs this morning, just the dead bird tonight. But it had to be 1-2 weeks old right? for that size?

Here is some pics of both of them with the largest comb.

Doesn't look like a chicken to me, but it's hard to tell.
Is anybody crowing??? I think you would have noticed if somebody was setting on eggs long enough to hatch a chick. Look carefully along your rafters, there may be a bird nesting up there...

Well wouldn't you know it we went back out there and found a bird nest with chicks in there. They look very similar to the one i found inside the coop... its on the outside of the coop but they could have made it inside maybe for shelter... We are going to leave it be and hopefully they won't go back into the coop. Thanks for the tip!

Your chickens likely found this and carried it into the coop. Kind of gross, but chickens will eat about anything. Baby birds often push each other out of the nest (Darwinism at work) so your chickens may find more.
