I have a broody hen sitting on Marans eggs due to hatch next Wednesday. I had one egg disappear last week, it had a slight crack/chip in the top of it. There was no sign of egg anywhere. This morning I went out and fed them and collect eggs and there was a another hen in the house laying her egg so I came back and there was something in the shavings it looked like a dead mole. I picked it up and it was a dead chick. It looked fully developed, feathered and pretty good sized. There was no sign of shell pieces but I didn't want to disturb the nest too bad looking. Any ideas on what may have happened or advice on how I can prevent this from happening again. This is my first time hatching so thanks for any help.
