I was out doing the daily jobs this morning when I noticed one of my Wyandotte bantam hens slumped in the corner. On closer inspection she was dead and her body was quite rigid. The previous few days she was puffed up and very lethargic and had lost colour in her comb. Very disapointed she was a cracking pullet. What was the cause of her and what should I have done and is there anything I can do?
All input appreciated
Thanks

I Can post pics if required

How old was she? Many things can cause sudden death such as coccidiosis, a large worm load, egg binding, something stuck in the digestive tract, or heart failure. More details may help, but a necropsy to look at her insides might help you to figure it out. Sorry for your loss.

Thanks
She wasnt coughing or sneezing just huddled up to herself in the corner not moving. I checked her vent ect. for lice but there was nothing. She was still eating and drinking. What should I look for when disecting her. Not sure about age but she wasnt too old

Sorry that I have not seen your post earlier, but when doing a necropsy, I would look inside the intestines for worms or for bleeding, open the crop, proventriculous, and gizzard for anything stuck or blocking, and inside the abdomen for internal laying or egg yolk peritonitis. You can also look at the liver for an off color or spots. Your state vet can do a professional necropsy of it ever happens again.
