We have a group of 8 feather foot hens and one rooster. Its been stupid cold here in NH the last few days but sunny so i put hay out on the snow and the birds go outside and peck the hay and soak up the sun. Last night when it was dark there was one straggler hen that looked all scrunched upm from the cold I figured. I shooed her in and all was well. Tonight when it was dark and I went to close them up all of them were still outside in the dark except for one hen that was under the laying boxes in the corner dead. She had probally been there all day but we just check on them from the outside as we walk by and figure all is well. This bird is less than 2 years old and all the others are happy as can be tonight.
What issues do young hens have could cause this??? They all looked ok when we feed and water them every day?
Thanks
