I posted yesterday out the power going out during hatching. Day 28 for these eggs was late Tues into Wednesday. Power was out for an unknown amount of time overnight Thursday into Friday morning.
One piped Wednesday and had progressed some by Thursday afternoon but has not any further and I believe is dead. One piped yesterday and hatched this morning.
I have two more that should be hatching but I’m seeing no progress. Is there any way to tell if they are still alive in there? I candled earlier today and didn’t see any obvious movement inside. I even got my stethoscope out but don’t hear anything inside :( I’m so bummed we may have only one that made it!

I’m so sorry! I understand how it feels to have a disappointing hatch rate. Once, I put 40 eggs in the incubator and only 8 chicks hatched!

For the seemingly lone baby chick, I’d try to find someone with young chicks who would be willing to give you one so that the chick dosn’t die of loneliness. They can and will. (Ask me how I know)

There are people who will give you them for free, so I would definitely start to ask around for companions for your baby chick. Good luck!

I will definitely get friends for it. We also have a broody lady out in our flock I’ve considered seeing if she will adopt it.
Mostly sad for my son’s class. They incubated them for me and I think we would have hatched more has the power not gone out in the stretch :(

Not the kids! Poor things, that’s so sad. I feel as if the weather this spring is so chaotic: I live in a cold desert area and it’s been raining off and in for days.
