Hi all, I have a mixed flock of chickens, one roo and eight pullets. To my knowledge, they are all vaccinated. A few came from a local farm store and the rest shipped from a hatchery and I paid additional for vaccination.
Last Saturday, my Olive Egger seemed to be injured. She was sitting on the floor of the run, alert, and scooting around a bit but not moving much otherwise. She let me get close enough to her to pick her up and just sat when I held her (not at all her norm-she was skittish). She definitely was acting as though a leg was injured, holding it up off the ground whenever she would stand up, but not staying standing for long.
I checked on her the next day and she had spent the night nesting on the floor of the coop. I brought her water and food and she was interested but didn’t eat much. Again, I left her be thinking she needed additional rest and had somehow gotten injured. I checked on her again next morning and she was dead in the run.
So she had been going up and down from the coop though not roosting with the girls.
When my husband carried her off by her feet to take care of her, she was dripping yellow fluid from her head.
With a leg indications, it might suggest Marek’s but it did seem more of an injury. The yellow fluid though does not seem normal at all.
Does anybody have ideas on what may have caused this?
