Help,

I went up to check on my chickens yesterday and my lavendar rooster was dead. He was fine the day before. No issues that i saw. Now I am worried about my other chickens. I read worms could have killed him. SHould I treat for worms? I haven't seen any in their poop. But i keep reading different things. One site says i will see the worms another says I will only see if it is bad. I did see another hen poop what might have been blood last weekend. Someone please help.

You can take some fresh droppings to a vet for a fecal test to look for parasites. Valbazen or SafeGuard Liquid Goat Wormer are very good for worm treatment. Where are you located? Chickens can drop dead, seemingly healthy one day, and gone the next from heart attacks, but they usually will have signs that something is off. A full crop that is not working, diarrhea, refusal to eat, or not come out of the coop in the morning, panting, wing droop or lameness, or other signs. You can check for parasites, feel the crop, and even look inside the abdomen at organs for something unusual. But a necropsy performed by your state vet or poultry lab would be the best way to know what happened. Refrigerate the bady in plastic, and take or ship it on ice packs as soon as possible. Sorry for your loss, but welcome to BYC. Here is a list of state vets for contact info:
