I am wondering if anyone has experienced having a deaf chicken and what would cause this? My girls are very social, well, all except one which tends to be a loner. She is not the first loner I have had so at first, I just assumed it was a part of her personality. When they hear me come outside they all come running, well except one. She will come running if she sees me or if she sees the rest of them running but I think she does not hear me. When I call them, they all come running, except one and she will run to me only if she sees the rest of them running to me. I have to assume that she is deaf because I don't get a response from her with any kind of sound. All of my girls are very sweet, very social and all of them respond well to sound, except one. Thoughts anyone?

I have never experienced a hearing impaired hen. My fear would be predation as she wouldn’t hear the alarming signals from her flock mates. Best of luck with your sweet girl! ❤️

Could be a genetic defect, a hatching issue, or from a respiratory infection.
She may get along just fine with the flock and has adapted to her lack of hearing,
tho if you free range she may indeed be more susceptible to predation.

How old is she and your other birds?

They were all born in March so she is now 6 1/2 months
