I found one of my legghorn hens dead in the coop this morning. Upon inspection I took a photo of the vent area. ( see photo) a friend of mine said it might be egg yolk peritonitis. Has anyone else had this issue and will it affect the rest of the flock?

It was my hen and I still have it. Not sure how to do a necropsy as I am fairly new to the game. This is my first batch of pellets

You can do your own necropsy at home to look at the abdominal organs, and to look for egg material in the oviduct. I look at the liver, the abdominal contents, the intestines, spleen, and gizzard, and it can be helpful to take pictures to post here. Or you can keep the body cold, but not frozen, and take it or ship to the state vet for a necropsy. Here is a video of a vet necropsy with organs labeled:

@Eggcessive gave you some good info.
It may seem a bit intimidating to take a look, but I've found it useful at times.
I understand losing one so young can be disheartening, but hopefully you can see something that will give a clue.
If you do your own necropsy, take some photos and post them here in your thread, we might be able to help with that too.

Keep us posted.
