According to my calculations the chicks are suppose to hatch on Saturday, but one egg is trying to hatch. I see a crack in it and the egg is moving a little. No other eggs are hatching. My question is how long does it take for the chick to peck out of his shell? Do I leave him in the incubator until the other hatch or what? Today is Wednesday and they are suppose to hatch Saturday or Sunday. Does he stay in there until he is dry and then I move him to his new pen and offer him food and water after one day of being dry? I have a fancy incua

Today should be lock down day. Make sure to stop turning your eggs today. Get your humidity up to about 65% or 70% today. If you have to add damp sponges to get the humidity up, do so. Sounds like this little guy has "pipped". He has broken thru the shell for now. What should be happening is that he is busy absorbing the last of the yolk in the egg. So just let him sit there. They can sit like this for 24 hours or more. So don't panic. LOL If he hatches and no other eggs have pipped or zipped out of their eggs, you can get him out when he is dry. (Usually takes about 6 hours) But you can leave him in there for longer if others are starting to come out of the eggs. You don't want to open the lid of the incubator when they are pipping or zipping as it can dry them out.

Keep us posted.
