Decided to undo a thing

Mealworm farm.

As I sat there yesterday picking beetles (or rather separating) them from pupae I decided I am done. It is a simple thing to do but for now I am so into my chickens. I want to concentrate on them for a whole cycle (probably year) and maybe I will revisit mealworm farming.

Meanwhile I am of the impression that feeding them mealworms is tantamount to giving them junk food (read it somewhere). I do not want my guys and dolls suffering from obesity. They will ultimately be free ranged, btw.

I don't know for sure, but my neighbor feeds a lot of meal worms, and sometimes I think her eggs taste funny. Mine eat bugs while out and about, rather love grasshoppers, but they have to hunt them, so don't get as much as if you just throw them on the ground.

If you go back to insect-raising, look into Dubia roaches.

My sister raises them for her reptiles and they couldn't be easier to handle. Almost odorless too.

Mealworms are useful to train chicks with and during molting. I do it all the time every time I hatch some eggs.

I have some mealies coming in tomorrow. I have eggs in the incubator right now.
