We have an old metal shed - 7ft long, 5 feet wide and probably 6 feet tall, that my husband and I are contemplating making into the girls' new home -- has anyone else done this? Will the hens be ok if there is TOO MUCH room in the coop?

We are also going to fence off a 24 foot by 24 foot run area for them using a picket fence. I have read many reviews that state picket works best - has anyone had a picket fence fail them and the chickens just got out? Thanks for all the help!

Rule of thumb is 4 sq ft per chicken. Make sure your run is predator proof and they can't fly out because chickens do fly. There's plenty of good info on here. Do lots of searching. Everything's pretty easy to find.
