Decorate a run....

So long story short, hubby built me my first coop 8 years ago with the thought that it was a fad and I would be done with chickens in a year or two... fast forward to now where I love my chickens and my daughter is now showing them in 4h. So we tore down the coop this weekend and hired a friend who is a retired builder to help us build the new one. bigger and nice ( although restrictions on easments didn't let us get as big as we wanted) It will be 8 x 12 with 2 divided sections for coops and a small storage space also. Runs to be attached as well. What works best for perches or things in the run. What would you put in? Will have a roof over top of run and construction sand on floor.
Give me decorating ideas for this run. what has worked or not worked for you?

Large, thick logs that have texture are great for chickens! MIne love top perch on them, and enjoy the natural texture and look of a tree.

A chicken swing would also be fun! Just take a tree branch, and hang it like a swing!

Also, consider hanging a head of lettuce from the roof for the chickens to play 'tetherball' with! LOL!

Natural branch roosts, dusting box with peat moss, hay or straw bales all work well. Things they can hop on, run around and scratch up.

Maybe make the doors really wide so a wheel barrow will fit. There are cute wood wheelbarrows that would be easier to move. Thinking they could be planted with goodies and put right by the doors so the person heading in could grab a few bits for them.

When I was working to change the ordinance in my city against chickens (How could anyone have an ordinance against chickens? GAH!) we had this one woman who just didn't want chickens in our city! She told us it would be a fad, and we wouldn't care about them in a few months. I love my chooks to death!!!! They are no fad to me! LOL!

I agree...but we were literally one of the first people in town with chickens ( I can name a dozen now) and backyard chickens were new in the news... We had little kids and had tried bunnies that lasted a year ( to be fair... someone gave me 2 angora mix rabbits when I had 3 year old twins... we have a single bunny now and all is good) Anyway... now that my daughter is showing and loves them as much as I do.. we are building an awesome ( gulp expensive) coop that will rock! Thanks for the ideas and keep them coming.

I don't know from 'decorating'...
.....but functionality for chicken environment enrichment?
2x2's and branches for roosts in run. Logs, stumps, pallets leaned against wall or up on concrete blocks, grazing frames, old table/chairs/benches.

We decorate! In fact, we had a well known local artist here paint flowers on the Coop for our chickens- Never let utility trump art. Start there and build up! BTW- we are replacing the ramp today and tomorrow. New Ply, new Linoleum and new-Astro turf for them.
