I am slowly going room by room redecorating my house.. I have my room and my DD's room, the office, and the spare/guest room done!

problem #1)
I have NASTY burber carpet all over the upstairs...

I cant afford to do all the floors all at once... what if I did one floor at a time?... and if they didnt exactly match? would that be ok?

I was thinking a lighter wood in the bedrooms and a dark wood in the hall and capping stairs... do you think that would look ok? this way I can buy my flooring one room at a time and if they dont match 100% you really would not notice it cause they are not butt right up to one another and the darker hall will help break it up..

what do you think?

number 2)

My living room is killing me! my curtains are burgundy and tan,, my sofa is tan... I have burgundy accents all over the living room. My friend went to Thailand and brought me the rice hats and they have burgundy through them.... dark red wood mantle over the fireplace.. dark wood floors... what colour do I paint the walls?... I was thinking a gray but the gray did not go with the tan of the sofa.. but it went great with the curtains...

Oh yeah i forgot to add I have 12' ceilings.. I like the goldenrod suggestion... but worry it would be to much on all walls.. maybe a focal wall... hmmmmm

What about pulling out the color at the top of your curtains? That beige/gold color? In a LIGHT tone... so things can blend together..
And i WANT that sofa.... looks comfy!!

This! and as for the flooring I think that is a great idea but like a previous poster said make them go opposite ways to make it look great
