At first I was buying into all the posts and information about decreased winter egg laying and accepting my 4 - 5 daily eggs out of 13 chickens.

Until I found Ruth's nest in horse stable:

And the EEs nest in barn crib:

And just this week another hidden nest on other side of chicken coop:

So they aren't decreasing laying at all - just getting darned sneaky about it.

Guess I'll have to tie their legs to nest boxes in coop for a few weeks till they learn their lesson.

Just be careful handling the hidden eggs... they get kind of stinky if they have been there for a while... and explosive!

Just caught another lone chicken off by an old storage shed we haven't even been in yet (moved here two months ago). Knew she wasn't there for the scenary - look what I found:

This is getting ridiculous.

And yes, All My Hens I am careful about the found eggs. Eventhough this started about two weeks ago and it's still cold here and I'm sure the eggs are still good and probably fresher than store-bought, and none of the eggs are fertile because we don't have a rooster -- I still don't eat them - I cook them for the baby chicks I just hatched and feed them to cats and dogs.
