Deep Hen House Litter

I read a post/article on this site about using deep litter in the hen house.

For the past months after reading that post I've been using deep litter (straw) and here is what has happened:

Helped get rid of fleas - also using diatomaceous earth;

Much continuously cleaner top layer as hens turn it over;

Hens abandoned the too small commercial laying boxes and made a deep nest of their own which they all lay in and has resulted in no more cracked eggs and cleaner eggs and I think happier chickens.

So thank you for the good and useful advice.

Glad it's worked out so well for you.

No system is perfect for everyone, but when you get the right system for your needs it makes the chicken-keeping far more enjoyable.

Martin's 13.3% permethrin. TSC has it in stock most all the time. non toxic,no with holding eggs. spray everything , even the birds. works on all bugs, ants, flies, mites, fleas, lice....
