I plan to move my chickens from an 8x4 tractor into a 10x10 dog kennel. I'm not sure what the deep litter method is... but I'm assuming that it would be best for the new coop. Also, I want to use the poop to fertilize (it won't be much since I'll only have 8-9 chickens) a pasture. What would I keep the poop in if I did not want to compost. Is it possible?

Deep litter is just that. Deep floor bedding. Without poop boards the poo piles up and you shovel it out ever few weeks or so... Poop boards can be scraped everyday. I scrape the boards and put it in a metal can with a lid. When that is full then it goes onto a pile along with spent bedding on the ground which is essentially a compost pile. Technically this all breaks up best if you flip it every few days with a pitch fork but I don't bother. The pile breaks down to good rich compost after a few months out in the weather. From there you shovel it in a wheel barrow and use it in the garden or around yard vegetation (great fertilizer for the garden!!). Hope this helps!
small metal can with lid shown below for poop board waste.... that gets moved into a compost pile.

You could try chicken poo tea! It is where you put the poop into a large water container and leave it 'brew' and then dilute it further before using as a liquid fertiliser.

So what dies the floor consist of? I don't use shavings in their coop right now. It has a dirt floor that I rake out every other week.

Also, if I were creating a coop out of a 10x10 chain link dog kennel, could I have poop boards in it? How?
