Hello everyone,

I'm trying to determine the cheapest way to fence in 1/2 an acre of woods so that I can let my chickens range there. I need to make sure that they don't go on to my neighbor's property and I want to keep them away from my garden. Is deer netting a reasonable possibility? If not, what other cheap solutions would you recommend? I'm probably not willing to spend more than about $150.

I don't know what deer netting costs but sure, that would be fine, sort of. As long as you are not concerned about predators. The deer netting should keep the contained but probably won't help a whole lot against raccoons, dogs, possum and especially won't help against hawks. If you are not using the netting to ward off predators and only to contain the birds, and you can do it within your budget, then it should work great. Even if they are flighty birds, they PROBABLY won't try to fly over it.

Yah, I am not too concerned about predators. I'll still close them in the hen house at night. My goal is just to be able to give them more space during the day.

I have some flighty birds including leghorns but I am betting they won't fly over the netting. I am pretty certain mine wouldn't. I am fortunate that I have 3 acres and my birds 1. Seem to stay in my yard and 2. My neighbors wouldn't care anyway. But if I did have to contain them, that sounds like a great idea.

Now I need to find out how long deer netting lasts. I'd love to have it last 3-5 years if I am going to make the investment.
