UPDATE: I looked closer and they have deer ticks on their eyes!!!! At least 4 chicks have deer ticks on their heads! I've never heard of this and can't find much on google. They look like ticks, not poultry ticks and are very firmly attached. Any Suggestions? I can't even seem to pull it off with tweezers because the skin in that area is so loose. The chicks eat ticks, they're not supposed to get them!

I have 8 week old chicks and at least 2 of them have puffy eyes. It looks like eye worm. I have a 5 year old that snuggles the chickens... He loves them and needs a lot of reminders not to put them near his face. My paranoia... can people get eye worm? Also do local stores sell the valbazen needed to treat the chicks? I appreciate your help!

Have your chicks been eating roaches? Have they been incessantly scratching their eye? You can see eyeworm in the birds eye.

I just went out and looked with a magnifying glass. There is no nasal discharge, but both chicks have deer ticks on their eyes!! They are the same nasty buggers I've been dealing with. They don't look like the pics of poultry ticks but are regular deer ticks. any suggestions?

Be glad it's NOT eyeworm. They might be seed ticks... no matter, a tick is a tick. Pluck them off with tweezers. Do your best to pull out the ticks head. Then put a little neosporin on the bite. It might be easier if someone held the chick for you while you plucked the ticks. Good luck.
